0-3 Month Update

Florence Grace Bradley-Herd

0-3 Month Update

An absolute cliche but honestly where has the last three months gone?! You don’t feel like a tiny little baby any more and you have changed significantly in three months. Gone are the worries of how our family would change, you have slotted in in the most natural way and it is as if you have always been here. Our darling little girl.

We all joked that you were holding out for your Uncle’s birthday when you hadn’t arrived by your due date… lo and behold you arrived four days overdue, the day of his birthday!

Due date: 22nd July 2018

Birth date: 26th July 2018

You still don’t sleep for longer than three hours in between feeds during the night, but I’m sure that will come with time. During the day you like to have a morning nap which can last anywhere between an hour to three. For the rest of the day you generally ‘cat nap’ which lasts about 20 minutes. We still haven’t mastered putting you down for every sleep (I say we, it’s me, I love the cuddles). We only have to move our arm slightly and one of you eyes pop open to check what we are doing lol.

You seem to have an internal radar that must set you off just as mummy is sat down to eat, so I’m rarely able to eat a meal with two hands lol. You are quite nosy and love to be watching everything that is going on around you, and can get quite irritated if you aren’t involved! You generally love going out in the pram and the car, which is great because it usually means the school runs are fairly smooth running!

We had some small hurdles to get over during the initial weeks of breastfeeding, but we are both so much better at it now and it is such a lovely bond between us both. You now take a dummy for comfort and struggle taking a bottle for a feed.

The longest we’ve been away from Flo is an hour and a half whilst mummy and daddy go to play badminton on a Sunday, and your Nanna and Grandma have loved spending that time with you.

Florence has definitely found her voice, and even more so in the past week as she’s discovered a new sound she can make- a little squeal of delight! She is such a smiley and happy baby, who loves it when mummy or daddy sing to her. Her whole face lights up when she is babbling away in response to you, and it is so lovely. Florence holds her head really well, and loves to be standing on your lap rather than laid down being held. She likes comfort, whether this be holding your finger or a soft blanket. She has definitely discovered her hands, and often grasps at my hair or daddy’s beard (ouch!).

We have so many daft nicknames that we’ve just picked up along the way and I’m going to include these in each of your updates as a little memory.

The Christening

16.09.2018

Baptism of Kaden & Florence

We celebrated the Christening of both Kaden and Florence last Sunday at St Thomas’ Church, followed by a small party afterwards. We had such a lovely day and cannot thank everyone enough for coming to celebrate our faith and our children on that special day. It was the first time the families had all been together, and was lovely!

The church service was short and sweet, with a really wonderful vicar leading the baptism. Kaden was brilliant and enjoyed having the attention on him, especially when the vicar let Kaden splash him with water too!

We had chosen Godparents for the children, and would like to thank them for accepting their roles in our children’s lives.

Florence wore a beautiful white Christening gown, the exact one her Nan Lorraine wore for her Christening day years ago. Although she slept through the majority of the day, she was a little star and couldn’t be more loved by all.

Kaden thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of his family and friends together for his special day, and was even more overjoyed at all the Lego he received as a result!

It was such a special day spent with the people we love the most, and will definitely be remembered and spoken about for years to come.

The Summer of 2018

 A roundup of Summer 2018.

JULY

Just as the summer holidays began we were blessed with the safe arrival of our daughter, Florence Grace. So the first few weeks were spent welcoming visitors at home to meet her and send their well wishes. We had our newborn photoshoot when Florence was one week old.

AUGUST

Our first ‘big’ trip out for the day was to Skegness. By this point I was comfortable breastfeeding in front of family, but this was a test to get used to breastfeeding publicly. It was fine (thank goodness) and although it’s still a learning process, both me and Florence are getting better at it as it becomes easier with time. We’ve taken Florence to Hunstanton, Leicester and Sheffield for day trips, so she certainly hasn’t been bored!

Kaden spends a lot of time talking and singing with baby Florence, it’s obvious how besotted he is with his little sister. I worried so much about how this new arrival would affect the dynamics of our family, and yet it is as if nothing has changed. Florence has easily entered our world and it feels as if she has always been here somehow. All of our hearts are very full.

We’ve spent time with Mitch’s family as they prepared for Mason to go to University in September.

SEPTEMBER

Kaden returns back to school, ready for Year 2. It will be an adjustment back into the school routine from the rather relaxed summer. I am also returning back to one of my jobs this week, I’m looking forward to getting back into it and having something to do during the week! This job involves admin, social media, and website editing, and as I can do most of it from home I don’t mind going back so soon. It will be good to have my mind busy again.

Other exciting things we have planned for September are that both Kaden and Florence are being Christened in just a couple of weeks. It will be lovely to get the family together and celebrate both the children. Then both me and Mitch are getting new tattoos. So there is a lot to look forward too!
