Bridesmaid’s Gifts

As most will know by now, my wedding day is fast approaching, and so I’m currently sorting and organising all the little details for the big day. One of which are bridesmaids gifts for my two sisters.

Screen Shot 2019-02-22 at 15.40.54.png

Even though the wedding itself is small and relatively low key, it was my wish to give my bridesmaids a little something to say thank you, with sentimental items they could keep as a memory from the day itself. I created a little gift bag each for my sisters, Emmelia and Sharnee, as shown in the image above.

To hold all of the items, I thought a personalised accessory such would be perfect, and could be used for many different uses should the girls wish. Graphic Impact have lots of different colours and fonts to choose from, which is a really nice way to make your gifts that little bit more special and unique. I knew my bridesmaids would love the colour and design of these medium accessory bags in navy with the copper glitter name detailing.

Screen Shot 2019-02-22 at 15.43.53.png

These personalised accessory bags are from Graphic Impact.

The bridal party personalised champagne flutes were a little DIY make. I purchased the flutes from Wilkinsons, and ordered the rose gold vinyl decal from The Foil Stationary Co, before individually adding each of the decals onto the champagne flutes. I also made one for the mother of the bride and bride for the morning of the wedding.

Screen Shot 2019-02-22 at 15.52.00.png

I wanted a little keepsake for the girls that would remind them of the day and their bridesmaids experience, and think these cut out heart, hand crafted clay trinkets with embossed bridesmaid detailing are just perfect. Topped with twine and sunflower yellow ribbon, they are the perfect addition to the bridesmaids gift bags. It was amazing working with such a lovely lady behind a small UK business to create these, she listened to my vision and the results are perfect!

Screen Shot 2019-02-22 at 15.43.59.png

These clay hearts are from Made With Love, who can also be found on Instagram (made_with_love_87).

The gifts were finished with some white rose petals, pink heart chocolates, a bottle of wine and a small bracelet. I hope my sisters enjoy their bridesmaids gifts as much as I have enjoyed putting them together! Thank you for being my bridesmaids!

Florence’s 6 Month Update

Our darling little Florence is six months old. How on earth has it been six months already? Now, I can already imagine your eyes rolling by what I just said, and I get it, it’s how time works… but when it’s your tiny little baby it just seems to go by so quickly.

Screen Shot 2019-02-19 at 14.55.22.png

Florence is an absolute delight. Full of personality, and will quickly let you know if she wants something or if you’re not doing what she wants. She can sit up unsupported, and is now very comfortable on her tummy to play. She can move herself backwards whilst on her tummy, and has bum shuffled once or twice. She can get herself onto her hands and knees and then rocks back and forth as if she is dancing. All of this suggests it won’t be too long before she is on the move.

Her favourite toys are musical ones, however Florence will take every opportunity she can to get a phone or remote control, the toy ones just don’t cut it! She absolutely loves when Kaden comes home from school, as he usually spends some time playing on the floor with her. Both Kaden and Mitch can have Florence laughing in seconds, and it is wonderful to watch. She recognises voices and the faces of people in her life the most, and is always quick to give a smile. She loves the attention.

Now I’m actually writing this whilst she’s asleep in my arms, because she’s incredibly clingy and doesn’t like being put down for more than five minutes at a time. Don’t even try to put her down once she’s asleep, because the second she realises what you’re attempting to do she will pop one eye open as a warning, don’t even try it mummy! She’s still only little and will sort herself out when she is ready. Until then, we’re happy with how things are…

Apart from sleep. Or lack of, should I say! Since Florence was born, she has established and maintained a routine for sleep, which hasn’t yet improved (my fingers remain crossed on this one!) She sleeps for two hours at a time then wakes for a feed, then sleep for two hours, feed etc.

Although Florence is still exclusively breastfed, we have started to wean her with both puree and baby led weaning methods as she likes both. Her favourite foods so far are blueberries and sweet potato, but there has been nothing that she has not liked as of yet. More often than not, she wants whatever I have on my plate!

Screen Shot 2019-02-19 at 14.57.58.png

In just six short months, Florence has made us a family of four, had a joint Christening with her big brother Kaden, learnt to smile and laugh, how to sit, play and interact. Mitch, Kaden and I have been overcome with love and emotion for Florence, as has everyone who has had the chance to meet her.

We have lots of exciting things ahead of us to look forward to this year, and we are so excited to watch you learn and grow.

Happy half birthday little one.

Motherhood, Product Review

Essential Vie Skincare Review

I was kindly gifted some skincare products from Essential Vie, and have been trying them out from the start of January to see what I thought about them. I was sent three products, the Multie Purpose Anti Stretch Mark Oil, the Hydrating Moisturiser and Nipple Cream. Each and every product from the Essential Vie range is plant based and cruelty free, which is great. I made a change last year to only use beauty products that are cruelty free, so this review opportunity was a great fit for me.

Screen Shot 2019-01-28 at 18.09.03.png

One of my New Year Resolutions for 2019 was to take better care of my skin, taking the time at the end of most days (every day would be a bit of a wishful thought!) to remove any makeup if needed, or to moisturise my face and body.

This was one of my resolutions this year as after having a baby, the last thing on my mind was ‘me time’. Now that Florence is 6 months old (I know- where has the time gone?!) I’m gradually getting into a routine, and am now able to make time for the things I enjoyed doing before the whirlwind of a new baby took over.

As I suffer with sensitive, combination skin it can be tricky to find the right skincare routine that works, keeping me moisturised but without making me too oily. I jumped at the chance to try out a cruelty free new moisturiser, and have been using it since the beginning of January.

Screen Shot 2019-01-28 at 18.12.26.png

The moisturiser is rich and thick, which has been great for this type of weather as my skin really needs a strong mosituriser to keep it from getting too dry and flaky. In the summer, I tend to opt for a lighter skin care routine as my skin doesn’t need anything heavy.

I used stretch mark cream and oils from the moment I found out I was pregnant, and right through my pregnancy. Yet, oddly enough, it is something we completely forget about once the baby is actually here. I have stretch marks from both of my pregnancies that I have tried and tested a variety of products for. I started using the Essential Vie Multi Purpose Anti Stretch Mark Oil at the beginning of January, and have been using it since as I wanted to be able to provide a round view of the products I was sent.

Screen Shot 2019-01-28 at 18.11.41.png

The Essential Vie Multi Purpose Anti Stretch Mark Oil is easy to apply, and whilst it is still an oil, it dries on the skin a lot quicker than other oils I have used and disliked as they felt too greasy for hours afterwards. There is no strong smell either, which is good for an every day (twice a day) product.

As I am still exclusively breastfeeding Florence, a good, trustworthy nipple cream is essential. I have used lots of different brands of nipple creams over these six months, but have used the Essential Vie Nipple Cream exclusively for the whole of January to get a real feel for the product. The Essential Vie Nipple Cream successfully receives any soreness I had been feeling from feeding Florence. With no strong smell or harmful ingredients, it is also completely safe to leave on and not have to wipe off before feeding.

Baby Girl 3-6m Wardrobe

Florence is now 5 months old, and has only just grown out of all of her 0-3 month clothes! Which has come at a good time, since I like to have a good sort out after Christmas and New Year. So I’ve organised her wardrobe with all of her 3-6 month clothing and accessories. I was sad to put away all of her newborn and small baby clothes but also was excited for her to wear all of her new outfits in the next size up! We were kindly gifted some organisation products from the lovely ladies at BeloandMe, and will be using showing some of those products within this blog post as we are using them in Florence’s wardrobe.

Florence shares a big IKEA wardrobe with her big brother, Kaden, and they each have half of the wardrobe. I like to hang up the majority of Florence’s clothes, and pair them with their matching leggings or headbands if they came with any of those in a set. I also like to put them into sections, such as dresses, short sleeve tops, long sleeve tops and so on as it makes it easier to find what you are looking for.

Screen Shot 2019-01-11 at 11.04.10.png

We use these wardrobe dividers from BeloandMe to separate the clothing into sizes. I have used the other wardrobe dividers to sort out her bigger sizes and store them correctly ready for when she needs them. Another product that has come in handy are the wardrobe space savers, which allow more items to be hung in the same amount of space, which is great for smaller spaces.

Screen Shot 2019-01-11 at 10.58.32.png

Behind the hanging clothes, there are two small open storage boxes, one of which is used for muslins and bibs, and the other for Florence’s hair bows and clips. We have used the drawer / storage box labels on these boxes for added decor.

Screen Shot 2019-01-11 at 11.11.20.png

Underneath this, the wardrobe has two wide drawers. In the top drawer we keep most of her miscellaneous items, such as her hats, swimming costume, socks and tights, as well as extra leggings or trousers and cardigans as all of these don’t really need hanging. We’ve used the baby drawer dividers from Belo and Me to separate some of these items into sections, so for example her socks are stored together. In the bottom drawer of the wardrobe we keep her vests, sleep suits, cot sheets and blankets.

Screen Shot 2019-01-11 at 11.16.43.png

Now that Florence’s wardrobe has been sorted out, I’m on to Kaden’s and our room, wish me luck!

Thank you for reading.

Children’s Chip Shop Recipe

This blog post is in partnership with Youngs Seafood, who undertook a study to examine food habits in families with children, in which 1,500 parents took part, all with children ranging from 4 years old to 15. As my eldest child is six years old, and a somewhat fussy eater, this study was of particular interest.

To help parents get their children clearing their plates, Young’s Seafood formed a panel of mini chefs and food critics- called The Youngsters. They have created Chip Shop style meals for home, with the aim to make meal times happy and improve the clearing of plates. Each recipe has been designed to be quick and easy for families to make, using common ingredients. For this blog post, the ‘Cod with Vegetable Chips’ will be shown, however all other recipes can be found on the website- Youngs Seafood.

Cod with Vegetable Chips

Screen Shot 2018-12-24 at 14.16.15.png

We are huge fans of creating vegetable chips in this house, as a healthier alternative, and an added vegetable on the plate.

Screen Shot 2018-12-24 at 14.16.25.png

The cooking instructions are as follows;

  1. Cook the Young’s Chip Shop Large Cod Fillets as per the instructions on pack.

Vegetable Chips;

  1. Preheat the oven to 220’C/Fan 190’C/ Gas mark 7.
  2. Place vegetables in a large bowl & sprinkle over smoked paprika & drizzle over the olive oil, season with black pepper & toss together so the vegetables become evenly coated.
  3. Transfer to a large baking tray & spread out to a single layer.
  4. Bake on the top shelf of the oven for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and crisp.

Crushed Peas;

  1. Add peas to a pan of boiling water, bring to boil and simmer for 2 minutes, drain well.
  2. Place the peas in a food processor or blender, add the melted butter, vinegar, copped mint, process briefly making sure to retain some texture & season to taste.

Christmas Gift Guide, Lifestyle

Christmas Gift Guide: Newborn

As we’re getting closer and closer to Christmas, it is only apt that I share some gift ideas with you all. I have come across some amazing small, UK businesses that I would love to share with my readers, therefore each of the guides will have an emphasis on shopping small this Christmas and supporting those smaller shops. This is the third blog post in the Christmas Gift Guide series, and is a Gift Guide for Newborns.

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 18.17.19.png

1. Zip Up Sleepsuit

ZippyUp have created the ultimate ‘dad-proof’ sleep suit for newborns, that feature a simple two way zip rather than poppers. These are warm, 100% cotton, comfortable and practical additions to a babies wardrobe, one that would make a lovely gift for any new parent.

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 19.10.00.png

This ZippyUp sleep suit, along with others can be found at ZippyUp.

2. Pineapple Print

Do you know someone who hasn’t announced the gender and won’t until you see the baby? Although a lovely idea, that can make gifts rather difficult. This pineapple nursery print offers an alternative to clothing for newborns, and is a safe bet as prints can be simple ways to decorate a nursery or bedroom.

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 18.43.36.png

This pineapple print, and other prints can be found at MamaDesigns.

3. Bear Dungarees

I don’t think I can do a gift guide without having clothes mentioned at least once! BornHygge have some lovely pieces in, and because it’s an independent store, it is unlikely that the parents will have received the same clothes from someone else as a gift!

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 19.07.15.png

These dungarees, along with other clothing can be found at BornHygge.

4. Baby Milestone Cards

Nested Fox have created a pack of 50 gender neutral baby milestone cards. They are unique in their design, in that there is space on the reverse of each card to write about that milestone. As well as this, under the cards, in the box itself there’s another unique addition to the pack; a space to write your child’s name, date of birth, weight and where they were born. This is such a lovely extra that I’ve not seen in other baby milestone card packs and is a lovely idea as it makes it something you can keep and give to your little ones when they are older.

46472508_353587695402631_1522174226889441280_n.jpg

These baby milestone cards can be found at NestedFox.

5. Pink Noise Whisbear Sleeping Aid

Not getting enough sleep is expected with a newborn, however there are products to make getting the baby off to sleep that little bit easier. The Whisbear is a sleeping aid that plays a soft, pink noise for 40 minutes when turned on, and then is able to react to a baby cry and play for another 20 minutes to help soothe the baby back to sleep. It has magnetic paws that make it easy (and safe) to attach to the cot or other product to be near the baby. It can also be used as a sensory toy! This is completely safe to use from birth, and is a gift that parents will continuously thank you for, for making bed time that little bit easier!

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 18.55.23.png

This sleeping aid, along with others, can be found at Whisbear.

6. Pineapple Muslin Squares

If you’ve read my blog post ‘Top Tips for New Mums‘ then you’ll know how much I recommend having plenty of muslin squares. They are handy for just about everything, and you can never have enough! These pineapple black and white muslin squares are double layered, super soft and 100% cotton.

Screen Shot 2018-11-19 at 18.46.41.png

These muslin squares, along with other products, can be found at MamaDesigns.

7. Black and White Baby Sensory Cards

These are a great gift if you’re looking for that something different that you know the new parents probably haven’t picked up already for their new baby. These are a practical, yet very useful and appreciated gift as babies can only see black and white to start and this really helps their development. The pack comes with seven reversible black and white images, so technically fourteen different pictures.

Screen Shot 2018-11-07 at 15.42.01.png

These sensory cards can be found at Bebedoubaby.

Thank you for reading.
