As we’re now in November and Christmas will very quickly be upon us, it is only apt that I share some of my finds with you all. I have come across some amazing small UK businesses that I would love to share with my readers, and so each of the guides will have an emphasis on shopping small this Christmas. I have created a series of Christmas Gift Guides on my blog, and this is the second of the series, a Christmas Gift Guide for Mums.

5. “Shh Mum Time, No Kids Allowed” Vanilla Candle

Who doesn’t love a candle? I know that I could never have enough candles! What’s so lovely about this candle is its amazing smell, a lovely, comforting ‘very vanilla’, I’m thoroughly enjoying burning this candle. The pot itself is well made and looks luxurious, with its detailing across the wooden lid. The designs on the front of the candle vary, a selection are shown in the image below. The candle arrived packaged brilliantly, there was no chance it would be damaged on route. Couldn’t recommend this product more!

This candle, along with others, can be found at Thecandlebrand.

6. Pink Personalised Mum and Children’s Name T-Shirt

What’s so lovely about this t-shirt is that it can be personalised with not only the names of you child or children, but also with the year you became a mummy, which I think is just such a great touch! You can choose the colour of the t-shirt as well as the writing, which means you can create a really lovely t-shirt of your choice. I love wearing mine and often get questions as to where I got it from!

Product Review

Zimpli Kids Review

We were very kindly sent some Simple Kids products to have fun with and review.

The products are suitable for children over the age of three, so unfortunately it was just Kaden testing them out this time! What’s great about these products is that they are made from no harmful chemicals, kind on skin and environmentally safe.

The first was the Gelli Baff in Lava Blast Red.

The instructions are easy to follow, with just three simple steps. The first being to fill the bath up with warm water to the specified amount (not exceeding 8cm/3inch). Then we had to gently sprinkle the Gelli Baff Step 1 sachet slowly and evenly over the water, and then stir in with your hands. After 5 – 10 minutes the Gelli Baff will form and it is ready to enjoy!

Once Kaden had finished playing, it was time to dissolve the Gelli. To do so, all we had to do was evenly sprinkle the Step 2 satchet over the Gelli, whilst Kaden was still in the bath, then stir it all in to create a more drainable liquid. I was a little worried that the Gelli would clog the drain, however it is completely safe to go down the drain, which makes cleaning up so much easier.

The second product was the Slime Baff, also known as Ooze Baff.

Again, this product has super easy instructions to follow to set up the Slime Baff. The only difference is that the longer you stir in this product, the thicker the slime will be after letting it set for 10 – 15 minutes.

The Slime Baff is slightly different to the Gelli Baff when it comes to draining. What Zimpli Kids recommend is to dilute the slime by adding some more water into the bath. Again, this product will not clog drains, so there is no worry when draining the slime.

Kaden loved trying out these products from Zimpli Kids! He thought the different colours and textures were both gross and fun!

Both Gelli Baff and Ooze Baff can be found at Zimpli Kids, as well as other fun products for children.

0-3 Month Update

Florence Grace Bradley-Herd

0-3 Month Update

An absolute cliche but honestly where has the last three months gone?! You don’t feel like a tiny little baby any more and you have changed significantly in three months. Gone are the worries of how our family would change, you have slotted in in the most natural way and it is as if you have always been here. Our darling little girl.

We all joked that you were holding out for your Uncle’s birthday when you hadn’t arrived by your due date… lo and behold you arrived four days overdue, the day of his birthday!

Due date: 22nd July 2018

Birth date: 26th July 2018

You still don’t sleep for longer than three hours in between feeds during the night, but I’m sure that will come with time. During the day you like to have a morning nap which can last anywhere between an hour to three. For the rest of the day you generally ‘cat nap’ which lasts about 20 minutes. We still haven’t mastered putting you down for every sleep (I say we, it’s me, I love the cuddles). We only have to move our arm slightly and one of you eyes pop open to check what we are doing lol.

Screen Shot 2018-10-08 at 16.28.54.png

You seem to have an internal radar that must set you off just as mummy is sat down to eat, so I’m rarely able to eat a meal with two hands lol. You are quite nosy and love to be watching everything that is going on around you, and can get quite irritated if you aren’t involved! You generally love going out in the pram and the car, which is great because it usually means the school runs are fairly smooth running!

We had some small hurdles to get over during the initial weeks of breastfeeding, but we are both so much better at it now and it is such a lovely bond between us both. You now take a dummy for comfort and struggle taking a bottle for a feed.

The longest we’ve been away from Flo is an hour and a half whilst mummy and daddy go to play badminton on a Sunday, and your Nanna and Grandma have loved spending that time with you.

Florence has definitely found her voice, and even more so in the past week as she’s discovered a new sound she can make- a little squeal of delight! She is such a smiley and happy baby, who loves it when mummy or daddy sing to her. Her whole face lights up when she is babbling away in response to you, and it is so lovely. Florence holds her head really well, and loves to be standing on your lap rather than laid down being held. She likes comfort, whether this be holding your finger or a soft blanket. She has definitely discovered her hands, and often grasps at my hair or daddy’s beard (ouch!).

We have so many daft nicknames that we’ve just picked up along the way and I’m going to include these in each of your updates as a little memory.

Bakerdays Product Review

We very kindly were sent a bakerdays letterbox cake to celebrate my Graduation.

As with any parcel delivery, there are worries about it arriving safely and completely in tact. I can say that when ordering a bakerdays cake there would be no reason to worry as it was packaged very well. The cake itself was in a tin, then placed in the box with protective packaging ensuring the tin didn’t move inside the cardboard box.

The website was easy to navigate myself around and I enjoyed looking at all the cakes available for different events or special days. The letterbox cake is 5″ and serves 3-4 people, however there are other sizes and products available.

In terms of flavour, we chose lovely lemon drizzle, but other options available were;

  • Traditional sponge
  • Rich chocolate chip
  • Gluten wheat free sponge
  • Dairy free sponge
  • Fabulous fruit

I’d like to thank bakerdays for sending me one of their personalised letterbox cakes and allowing me and my family to review their product. We all enjoyed having a slice and think it is a wonderful business idea to be able to send an edible gift straight to loved ones right from the comfort of your own home! With next day delivery and cakes that stay fresh for 14 days, what’s not to love?!

Bakerdays can also be found on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,  as well as through their website- bakerdays

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day

10. 10. 2018

As it is ‘World Mental Health Day’ I thought I would share my experience and thoughts as  I feel it is important to open up the conversation on mental illness in an attempt to end the stigma and together make a change for the better!

Screen Shot 2018-10-10 at 15.45.34

With my first child, I suffered with long term post natal depression. I was terrified they would take my baby away and by speaking out, I’d only be adding fuel to the fire of the teenage mother stereotype. A little older, and dare I say wiser, I now realise that just wasn’t the case. People are there to help, in whatever way they can. I have come to learn that mental illness is not something to shove to the bottom of the pile and hope it goes away if ignored. It also isn’t something to be ashamed about. I am incredibly lucky to have such a strong, supportive and loving network around me that have helped me through my lowest and toughest times, and celebrated with me in my greatest.

But I’m aware that not everyone has this or feels comfortable sharing with close family or friends. It can be daunting speaking to loved ones, so perhaps speaking confidentially with a stranger/health professional could be the first step. There are so many other ways to reach out and receive support, you just need to know how. I have created a small list of websites and helplines at the bottom of this blog post for those that might need it.

There is so much pressure to be perfect and that just isn’t reality. Social media can be powerfully detrimental to one’s mental health as we constantly compare ourselves to others. What we sometimes need to do is take a step back and realise it’s not always real. No one shares photos of their bad days, but that’s not to say they don’t happen. However, the use of social media on days like today can be powerful for a good cause. Using our social platforms to bring important issues to light and share our own experiences in the hope that it helps someone else, even if it is just one person. The more people that talk about it, the more common it is to be heard, and hopefully the easier it then is for people to seek help.

Let’s spread awareness today for World Mental Health Day, but continue to do so in the days, weeks and months that follow.

Motherhood, Tattoos

Tattoos & Breastfeeding

This blog post is about getting tattoos whilst being a breastfeeding mother. Although this is quite a niche topic, I found that when searching for answers myself there was little to no reliable information out there to help. Therefore, hopefully this will help someone searching for particular answers on this topic.

Mitchell and I had booked tattoos as part of my ‘pushing present‘ for having Florence. (If you know, you know lol) I didn’t have a baby shower, so thought I would at least make the most out of one of these American pregnancy traditions! However, when the time actually came I suddenly had a little panic over whether or not I would even be able to get mine done as I was breastfeeding. After a quick google I was left even more unsure about whether it was safe to go ahead or if I would need to cancel and have them done once I was no longer breastfeeding Florence.

It was only after speaking to my tattooist (and him speaking his partner who’s a midwife) that is was agreed we were completely fine to go ahead as long as I fully understood the information. I was told that getting the tattoo itself is absolutely fine as the ink does not transfer into the milk. Obviously choose to go to a respectable and clean tattooist to minimise any chance of infection, as it is only if the tattoo becomes infected and you have to go on antibiotics you will have to stop breastfeeding.
